Azalina: Giving up executive control of Parliament is a milestone

The government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has taken a significant step towards strengthening Parliament's institutional independence by relinquishing executive control over its administration.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the move would allow Parliament to manage its own affairs independently after more than three decades under the executive branch.

She was responding to Arau MP Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, who suggested that Parliament should independently manage allocations for MPs through the Parliamentary Services Council (MPP) on Thursday (Oct 15).
