ART doesn't compel Malaysia to export rare earth elements to US, Dewan Rakyat told

Malaysia’s reciprocal trade agreement with the United States does not require the country to export rare earth elements (REE) exclusively to Washington, says Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

He told the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 5) that the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) contains no provisions on exclusive commitments, supply obligations or market preferences that would bind Malaysia to export REE to any specific country.

Arthur added that Malaysia will continue to prohibit the export of raw REE under existing policy, stressing that the move is aimed at preventing the exploitation of strategic resources without value addition.
