Amendment to act necessary to combat illegal remittance activities, says Finance Ministry

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (March 26) that despite enforcement and surveillance, Bank Negara Malaysia continued to receive a high volume of tip-offs from the public on Hawala or illegal remittance activities.

She said the central bank had been receiving an average of 187 cases per annum over the past five years.
