Bringing back GST would unfairly burden the poor, says Anwar

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the government's opposition to reintroducing GST, saying it would unfairly burden low-income groups.
Speaking at the closing of the Madani Rakyat programme at the Lumut Waterfront on Sunday (June 15), Anwar defended the current SST system, noting it targets imported and luxury goods, not daily necessities, and helps fund essential services and national defence.
Anwar also dismissed claims of widespread electricity tariff hikes, stating that 85% of consumers were unaffected.
