Utusan staff struggling financially after salary delays, claims NUJ

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged Utusan Melayu Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir to release all of his shares in the newspaper company to pay the salaries amounted to more than RM3.2 million a month.

NUJ secretary-general Chi Sung Chew said that at a press conference on Friday and claimed that the move was necessary for the future of 769 workers and staff of Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd.

Chin added that NUJ members are now facing a debt burden due to the management's failure to pay their salaries.
The NUJ secretary-general said the union will hold a picket outside the Utusan office on Aug 19 if salaries are still not paid.
