Lorry driver arrested, RM3.66mil worth of cigarettes, beer seized

At least RM3.66mil worth of contraband cigarettes and beer have been seized following a Customs Department operations in Port Klang.

Central Zone Customs assistant director-general Datuk Zulkurnain Mohamed Yusuf told a press conference on Tuesday that the department received a tip-off about the shipment and checked a 40-foot container at a warehouse in Wesport around 12.30am on Sept 6.

The container had 4.5 million cigarettes and 1,228 cartons of contraband beer with duties at RM229,206.

A 36-year-old lorry driver has been remanded for one week to help with further investigations.
