The government will consider advising the King to declare a state of emergency in Gerik and Bugaya, which face by-elections, if the Covid-19 risk is high in the two seats, says Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said that during Ministerial Question Time on Tuesday (Nov 24) in reply to Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian), adding that the nation is facing another wave of Covid-19 infections following the Sabah state elections.

Maslan had asked the Prime Minister to state if the government plans to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to declare a state of emergency in Bugaya or Gerik as was done for the Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency.

Takiyuddin added that the Declaration for a Proclamation of Emergency under Article 150(1) of the Federal Constitution for Batu Sapi did not go against democracy.
