Bintulu district hit by floods

Bintulu district was hit by floods early Tuesday with waters rising as high as one metre and inundating several locations in northern Sarawak.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department had to carry out an emergency evacuation at the Batu 5 squatter colony outside the town at pre-dawn hours.

Some 23 people had to be rescued from flooded areas as water surged to about a metre high.
