Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Monday said he hopes Penang would enforce the new rules of the recovery movement control order (MCO) under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) as it mulls its implementation.
Ismail said that when responding to a question on Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s statement that the state government would study the recovery MCO at a special committee meeting before deciding on its implementation.
The senior minister further explained that Act 342 is applicable to all states except Sarawak, and even if states choose not to enforce the recovery MCO, federal authorities such as the police can take action if they find anyone flouting the rules, as federal law can be enforced at the state level.
