Health DG: New Covid-19 strain identified in Sabah

The Health Ministry has identified a new Covid-19 strain in the country from samples taken in Sabah.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Wednesday (Dec 23) said it was still unknown whether the strain – dubbed the “A701B” mutation – was more infectious than usual.
On the Covid-19 mutation found in the UK which is also said to be highly infectious, he said the ministry was still monitoring the situation.
The government, however, does not intend to revert the mandatory quarantine ruling from 10 days back to 14 days due to the UK mutation discovery.
