Plans to remove tracking devices from three dugongs living in Trang, Thailand is in the offing following complaints from residents about animal abuse.
The National Science and Technology Development Agency, which installed the GPS devices on the mammals, chose not to continue its efforts in tracking their movement and migration after it was said to hard the animals.
The agency and local marine wildlife authority are now working on ways to safely catch the dugongs and remove the devices.
